Unconditional Love
No one loves more unconditionally than God. That is what I take with me each time I go into the counseling room with a client faced with unplanned, crisis pregnancy. Each Tuesday morning as I drive 30-minutes to my teaching job, I pray for those special women God will bring to the Center on Tuesday afternoons. “Use me in a mighty way to bring these women to you Lord.”
A couple of Tuesdays ago, a client came in for a pregnancy test. She was very distraught and did NOT want to be pregnant. You see she had an unplanned pregnancy at age 15 and at that time was going to abort, but her parents interceded when they found out. Her parents have helped her raise her 5-year-old son and have sacrificed much for her and her child. Almost done with the first tow years of nursing training she found out she was pregnant again. She was NOT going to tell the father of her unborn child (a close school mate/friend for the past year) of her pregnancy. After all, “when you tell a guy something like that, he totally changes.” She had experienced such rejection from the father of her first baby. She was bitter, angry and did not see how another baby could fit into her life-with the demands of school, no job, and a boyfriend two years younger than she. But our God is a God of hope. He is the author and prefecter of life and His ways not our ways. He is our strength. My client didn’t say much during her time with me but she did allow me to make an ultra sound appointment for her. We prayed (my prayer partners, that staff and I) she would show up for her ultra sound appointment and praise God, she did! To my amazement, God showed up in remarkable ways during the week after her initial visit to the center. She told her boyfriend she was pregnant and he told his mother – a very strong Christian. They both are most supportive of her and the baby. Her boyfriend said he “saw a future for them together.” She had an appointment with her doctor and was preparing to tell her parents. My client is so thankful to us that “she didn’t take matters into her own hands!” She came away with God’s hope, love and strength to meet the challenges ahead of her.
