Julie Stoddard Testimony

“Lucy” came from another country where abortion is common, very common.  So when she called our Center seeking an abortion, she did not consider the request to be anything unusual.  Of course, we told her that we do not do abortions nor refer for them, but we would be glad to listen to her story and give her information that would help her to make a decision concerning her pregnancy.

Her appointment was difficult because of the language barrier.  Her counselor was not sure exactly what Lucy did and did not understand.  But one thing was for certain—she and her husband wanted an abortion.  They had been in the United states for only a few years and had no extended family here to help them.  They also felt that their finances were already too tight with the one child they already had in their family.

God intervened that afternoon.  Everly Rens came into the center unexpectedly and was able to do an ultrasound,  Although that particular ultra sound did not show all we had hoped it would show.  Everly was able to share information about WIC and AHCCCS.  Everly also set up and appointment for Lucy with Dr. Vrtiska.  However, our client and her husband were still seriously considering abortion.    She did seem genuinely appreciative to have the opportunity to discuss her pregnancy with a caring and competent physician at no charge! A few days later she had a follow-up ultra sound which revealed her 8-1/2 week old baby,  She decided to carry to term.

She received all of her prenatal care at the Clinic.  Dr Vrtiska prayed with her at each of her appointments, just as he does with all of his patients,  Lucy eventually had a beautiful baby boy.  She brought him ino the center to show us.  She held him in her arms and did not seem to want to leave.  Finally, she told me right before she left,  If you all weren’t here, I wouldn’t have this baby.”

This was truly a case of many at the Center and the Clinic working together for the good of our client and God working though us all.  If it was a mathematical equation it would look like this: (C)x (V+U+P) = L

In other words the Love of Christ multiplied by the sum of one dedicated and discerning volunteer, one enlightening ultrasound and one compassionate and competent physician equals life.
